Valeo and ROHM Semiconductor are Working Together to Make the Next Wave of Power Electronics

Valeo and ROHM will contribute to the improvement of efficiency and downsizing of Valeo’s next generation of xEV inverters.

Valeo and ROHM Semiconductor are working together to make the next wave of power electronics.

The next iteration of power modules for electric motor inverters is being proposed and optimized by Valeo and ROHM Semiconductor through the utilization of their combined expertise in power electronics management. Valeo will receive ROHM’s 2-in-1 Silicon Carbide (SiC) molded module TRCDRIVE pack™ as a preliminary measure for future powertrain solutions.

Valeo is expanding the availability of efficient, electrified mobility across a variety of vehicle types and markets, from the smallest (e-Bikes) to the largest (e-Trucks), from the mainstream (passenger automobiles) to the most advanced. Valeo advances the power electronics solution by integrating ROHM’s power modules with its expertise in mechatronics, thermal management, and software development, thereby contributing to the decarbonization, efficiency, and performance of automotive systems worldwide.

Initially, Valeo and ROHM have been engaged in technical exchanges to enhance the performance and efficiency of the motor inverter, a critical component of the propulsion systems of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), since 2022. Both organizations endeavor to provide an optimized cost-performance ratio by enhancing energy efficiency, reducing heat generation through optimized cooling and mechatronic integration, and enhancing overall reliability through SiC packaging. This is accomplished through the refinement of power electronics.

The Valeo Power Division says that this agreement is a big step toward making advanced, high-efficiency power electronics available. Valeo hopes that this partnership will set new standards for high-voltage inverters in the industry and speed up the move toward more efficient and affordable electric transport.

With its power semiconductors, ROHM is pleased to support Valeo, a well-known car supplier. ROHM’s TRCDRIVE pack™ has a high power density, which makes it more efficient with power. By making it easier for them to work together with Valeo, the two companies will help make powertrains that are much more efficient.

These advancements are crucial for meeting the increasing need for a more powerful and reasonably priced inverter for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), as well as for longer-range and faster charging capabilities.

At the beginning of 2026, Valeo will begin supplying a first-series project. The upcoming generation of xEV inverters from Valeo will be more efficient and smaller thanks to the joint efforts of ROHM and Valeo.
